چکیده

We analyze the optimization of the running times of Green’s function first-passage (GFFP) algorithms. The running times for these new first-passage (FP) algorithms [J. Chem. Phys. 106 (9) (1997) 3721; Phys. Fluids A 12 (7) (2000) 1699; J. Comput. Phys. 174 (2) (2001) 925; Monte Carlo Meth. Appl. 7 (3–4) (2001) 213], which use exact Green’s functions for the Laplacian to eliminate the absorption layer in the “Walk on Spheres” (WOS) method [Ann. Math. Stat. 27 (1956) 569; J. Heat Transfer 89 (1967) 121; J. Chem. Phys. 100 (5) (1994) 3821; J. Appl. Phys. 71 (6) (1992) 2727; J. Comput. Phys. 39 (1981) 396], are compared with those for WOS algorithms. It has been empirically observed that GFFP algorithms are more efficient than WOS algorithms when high accuracy is required [Phys. Fluids A 12 (7) (2000) 1699; J. Comput. Phys. 174 (2) (2001) 925; Monte Carlo Meth. Appl. 7 (3–4) (2001) 213]. Additionally, it has been observed that there is always an optimal distance from the surface of the absorbing boundary, δI, for a GFFP algorithm within which a FP surface can be permitted to intersect the boundary [Phys. Fluids A 12(7) (2000) 1699; J. Comput. Phys. 174 (2) (2001) 925; Monte Carlo Meth. Appl. 7 (3–4) (2001) 213]. In this paper, we will provide a rigorous complexity analysis consistent with these observations. This analysis is based on estimating the numbers of WOS and GFFP steps needed for absorption on the boundary, and the complexity and running times of each WOS and GFFP step. As an illustration, we analyze the running times for calculating the capacitance of the unit cube using both GFFP and WOS. © 2003 IMACS. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Effect of Objective Function on the Optimization of Highway Vertical Alignment by Means of Metaheuristic Algorithms

The main purpose of this work is the comparison of several objective functions for optimization of the vertical alignment. To this end, after formulation of optimum vertical alignment problem based on different constraints, the objective function was considered as four forms including: 1) the sum of the absolute value of variance between the vertical alignment and the existing ground; 2) the su...

Optimized Joint Trajectory Model with Customized Genetic Algorithm for Biped Robot Walk

Biped robot locomotion is one of the active research areas in robotics. In this area, real-time stable walking with proper speed is one of the main challenges that needs to be overcome. Central Pattern Generators (CPG) as one of the biological gait generation models, can produce complex nonlinear oscillation as a pattern for walking. In this paper, we propose a model for a biped robot joint tra...

epsilon-Shell error analysis for "Walk On Spheres" algorithms

The “Walk On Spheres” (WOS) algorithm and its relatives have long been used to solve a wide variety of boundary value problems [Ann. Math. Stat. 27 (1956) 569; J. Heat Transfer 89 (1967) 121; J. Chem. Phys. 100 (1994) 3821; J. Appl. Phys. 71 (1992) 2727]. All WOS algorithms that require the construction of random walks that terminate, employ an -shell to ensure their termination in a finite num...

Sampling from social networks’s graph based on topological properties and bee colony algorithm

In recent years, the sampling problem in massive graphs of social networks has attracted much attention for fast analyzing a small and good sample instead of a huge network. Many algorithms have been proposed for sampling of social network’ graph. The purpose of these algorithms is to create a sample that is approximately similar to the original network’s graph in terms of properties such as de...
